TEHRAN (IQNA) – A number of people have been taken into custody in Egypt for defying a ban on organizing Iftar (fast breaking) tables in streets.

According to the Iranian Cultural Center in Algeria, the prosecutor’s office ordered arrest of those behind it after videos were circulated of Iftar tables organized in Egypt’s Jizan governorate.

Restrictions have been imposed on all social gatherings in the North African country to stem the spread of the coronavirus.

They include religious gatherings such as Taraweeh mass prayers and gathering for Iftar meals.

Last week, a number of people were arrested for holding mass prayers in Egypt.

During the holy month of Ramadan, Muslims all over the world start fasting at dawn and break their fast at sunset.
